Why your SAP FI/CO project needs an auditor's eye

Most of the SAP FI/CO problems I get called in to fix weren't caused by the software. They were caused by nobody double-checking the finance logic before go-live.
The gap most projects miss
A chart of accounts that doesn't match how the business actually reports. A COPA derivation rule that quietly misallocates margin. An account determination that only breaks during the first real period close. None of these show up in a demo. They show up three months later, at the worst possible time.
Why an auditor's eye changes the outcome
I started in financial auditing before SAP, and that's not a footnote on my CV, it's the whole point. Five SAP certifications tell you I know the system. Years spent finding the one entry that doesn't reconcile tell you I know where it hides.
A consultant configures what you ask for. An auditor also checks what you didn't think to ask.
What that means for you
Fewer surprises after go-live. A close process that doesn't rely on a spreadsheet fixing what SAP got wrong. And a system your own auditors won't flag a year later. That's the standard I hold every FI/CO engagement to, whether it's a full S/4HANA rollout or a focused review of what's already live.
